Our Story
The name ‘Maya’ stems from Sanskrit (माया) and means ‘to create’ in the sense of making the world, implying extraordinary power and wisdom, often with a clear connection to the natural world.
For some time, I was looking to start a business reselling sustainable products made in India, my country of heritage. After the birth of my daughter (as you can guess, she’s named Maya), I realised the focus for my business was right in front of me. I had no good way of giving her nappy-free time without worrying about keeping her comfy and my place dry and clean. Rather than using towels (those leak) or disposable underlays (wasteful), I figured a good product feels just as comfortable, remains leakproof, and can be reused after washing. This led to our first product brought to market, the dry sheet.
