In 2020, the e-commerce industry surged by over 80% as Australian households shifted online almost overnight. Demand exploded – but supply chains broke down. Retailers scrambled to find stock, and the gap between local suppliers and local stores became impossible to ignore.
It became clear how heavily we rely on overseas supply chains for everyday products – clothing, homewares, food, and more. While some products will always be sourced internationally, supporting local should be easier. The challenge is that many Australian suppliers – including makers, manufacturers, and wholesalers – simply aren’t easy to find.
